Microschools generally fall under the homeschooling umbrella. While some operate as private schools, Transitions Microschool serves as a learning center for homeschooling families, offering enrichment, engaging projects, and fun with peers to enhance their curriculum.
Many private and microschools are faith-based learning centers, but Transitions Microschool is not affiliated with any particular religion. TMS believes that faith is a personal journey best guided by students' families and religious leaders.
Transitions Microschool is proud to have state-certified teachers. While certification is not legally required for private schools and microschools, TMS prioritizes providing families with experienced, qualified educators. Certification information is available upon request.
Transitions Microschool welcomes all middle-grade students, focusing on grades 3-8 (approximately ages 8-14). We offer a supportive environment where students can thrive, particularly those who struggled in traditional schools due to anxiety, neurodivergence, giftedness, or a need for smaller class sizes. TMS provides a safe space for students who have experienced bullying or isolation and fosters a diverse community of abilities, talents, and personalities to create dynamic and engaging learning experiences for all.
Transitions Microschool expects students to arrive with an open mind, a willingness to try new things, and appropriate behavior. We embrace the fun and silliness that comes with middle schoolers and encourage a joyful learning environment. Many students who faced behavioral challenges in traditional schools have thrived at TMS, thanks to frequent hands-on activities, movement, and opportunities for self-expression. We are always open to discussing individual behavioral concerns to ensure a positive experience for every student.
Homeschooling and microschooling do not assign grades like traditional public schools. Instead, homeschooling families must either submit a portfolio demonstrating progress or have their students take an approved test. At Transitions Microschool, students will produce 2-4 academic artifacts per session (8-16 per trimester) to include in their portfolio for teacher evaluation. TMS's certified teachers are qualified to complete evaluations AND do state testing. These options are provided to enrolled families at no additional cost.
Transitions Microschool does not offer traditional "courses" like a public school. Instead, we design interdisciplinary units that integrate reading, writing, history, civics, science, math, art, and computer science. Each unit incorporates some reading and some writing, as well as many hands-on projects or tasks and includes a field trip or special event to enhance learning.
Our schedule may look traditional on paper, but in practice, it’s all about flexibility. Since we don't have bells to switch activities, we can easily adjust time spent on subjects based on individual needs—providing extra support where needed and moving more quickly through areas of strength. At TMS, our goal is to adapt to each student’s needs and give them the time they need to succeed. We also incorporate plenty of brain breaks and opportunities to play outside or simply relax. Visit the bottom of our PROGRAMS page to view our schedule.
No, our schedule is structured differently. We operate on a year-round calendar with three trimesters (Spring, Summer, and Fall), generally following a "Six Weeks On – Two Weeks Off" model, with additional time off around the 4th of July, Thanksgiving, and the winter holidays.
We ask families to commit to a full trimester (Spring, Summer, or Fall) when enrolling. We offer FOUR schedule options: two full days per week or four half days per week. Since all students will receive four lessons per week, tuition will be the same for both options—$500 per month or $2,000 per trimester (three trimesters per year).
Yes! We are very happy to be an approved provider for ALL of our homeschool programs and both small group and individual tutoring. We accept both the UA and PEP scholarships. We also are approved for PEP testing and homeschool evaluations.
We are open for Fall registration, but before students register, we would like to meet parents and students for a chat about learning goals and educational needs. We want to make sure we can provide each individual student what they need for success. Our learning center may not be the best fit for every student, and we want to meet prospective students and families before they sign up or pay fees. Please go to BOOK to schedule your 20 minute tour and chat to see if we're a great fit for each other.
